Seahawks @ 49ers

Week 11 - Sunday November 19th 2006

Last week we said that a victory over the Rams would probably seal the NFC West but predictably it wasn't quite as simple as that.

It wasn't the Rams that were causing the problems though it was the 49ers who advanced to a 4-5 record and right back in the hunt for the Divisional title.

For the Seahawks, Shaun Alexander practiced this week & looked very sprightly. Matt Hasselbeck practiced too, but threw off his back foot a lot and had something of a limp. On that evidence Seneca Wallace may get his fourth straight start of the season.

On the evidence of the past two games the Seahawks Defense has allowed only one TD & kept a normally busy Steven Jackson relatively quiet last week. That would be just as well because the 49ers are showing some signs of life. They picked up their first road win of the season in Detroit last week with a career high 159 Yards from RB Frank Gore. Their Defense has forced an impressive seven turnovers in the last two games.

Fear the 49ers? It would be foolish to write off their chances, especially as they defeated the Vikings at home a fortnight ago. The key to the game could actually be who the 49ers Defense has prepared all week to play against. There is the possibility that Hasselbeck could be a game day decision & SF may have been preparing to face Seneca Wallace.

However, remember last years corresponding fixture where a failed 2 point conversion gave the Hawks 27 – 25 victory. Even with QB Alex Smith showing considerable improvement the 49ers passing game still remains modest at best. If the Hawks can grind out some clock eating drives & coral Gore then you would have to favour the visitors.

As ever, the game will be followed live in our exclusive Seahawkers UK chat room (no jeans or trainers please) where the properly attired are more than welcome.

Whilst there we like to listen to the radio coverage from the States www.thegamelive.com in the past the top link has been reliable.

There is also now a live streaming option for UK based fans with broadband via http://sports.yahoo.com/nflgamepass but this service has not been totally reliable so please check out the chat room first for further information.
