If you're looking for a detailed game analysis then you're not going to find it here but really there isn't much of a game to analyse.
The last pick in the draft is known is 'Mr Irrelevant' and for the Seahawks, amazingly, this is 'Game Irrelevant'.
I have a colleague who is a big Packers fan and when the fixtures came out in April I sent him a text which said something like ' Seahawks prey, on New Years Day, the Pack will pay'. Well it was the best I could come up with at short notice but the point is that I fully expected the season to be hanging by a thread and despite my smack talk didn't really fancy going into Lambeau needing a result.
*yz the NFL call it. I'm going to say it again, *yz. NFL standings if you will. Code for clinched division, clinched first round bye, clinched home field advantage.
The thing is this was always something I saw against other teams names whilst I wondered which combination of victories around the NFL would be good enough to see the Seahawks as the 6th seed.
And another thing. Gatorade bath's. I must have seen hundreds of those down the years but I don't remember a Seahawks coach getting one. You'll have to click on the Home page link to see Mike Holmgren getting his. Who could the culprit be?
Most analysts have picked the Packers for a win on the basis that the Seahawks are going to rest their starters but one thing is for sure. Whatever it takes Shaun Alexander will break the single season TD record and will get enough yards for the rushing title. His only serious challenger is Tiki Barber who fortunately plays the night before so Shaun and more importantly Mike Holmgren will know exactly what he has to do. Even if Tiki falls short expect 50 yards at least just to guard against Larry Johnson having a 300 yard game.
This is not all about Shaun Alexander but about how achieving such records reflects well on the Seahawks team as a whole.
In other news Kelly Herndon who has been out injured these last few weeks is not even listed on the injury report so expect him to play quite a bit to give him a taste of the action again and to prevent Mike Holmgren having to play himself at CB.
Of the others I'm sure that Trufant and DD Lewis will not play at all whilst the starters will play at least a couple of series before the reins are handed over to the back ups.
Of course the game could also see the last game of Brett Favre for the Packers. I'm sure a 3-13 season was not how he imagined going out but I really don't see him coming back for the Packers at least. What guarantees has he got that next season will be a whole lot better? Why not play your final game at Lambeau in January instead of on the road somewhere in October?
Yes I did say 3-13 season for the Packers because I really believe that the Seahawks back ups will win this game. Even if we do lose, who cares??
