Stir Crazy - Seahawks 41 49ers 3

Week 14 - Sunday December 11th 2005

"Yeah that's right, we're bad, we're bad. We don't take no shit, we take a little bit, but not that much"

Somewhere round about the time I started supporting the Seahawks, VCR's we're making their breakthrough in the home entertainment industry. One of the videos I owned was Stir Crazy starring Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder and for sentimental reasons it's still one of my favourite ever films. With the sad death of Richard Pryor announced this weekend, I thought the least I could do was to let him have the opening line to this report.

During the film he was pretending to be tough but impressing no-one. I'm not sure that the Seahawks are pretending any longer but are we impressing anyone yet? Maybe not but as the 49ers found out we don't take no shit!

I'm going to spare you the play by play this week and go off on a bit of a ramble. Suffice to say that the Seahawks won by a huge margin that could and probably should have been larger, For the record TD's we're scored by Engram (twice) Stevens, Jurevicius and they even let Shaun Alexander run one in later. Josh Brown kicked two 52 yard field goals. The 49ers scored a field goal on their opening drive assisted by 2 Seahawks penalties and that was it.

The Seahawks still haven't earned much respect and taking an objective view that is understandable to an extent. Weak division, lucky wins, that win against the Eagles doesn't count. Things like that.

Although it gets annoying at times after Sunday's game I've decided to not really care. I'm going to sit back and for the next 6 days at least I'm going to enjoy it.

Enjoy the fact that we're 11-2, enjoy the fact we've won 9 in a row, enjoy the fact we've got the best running back in the league, enjoy the fact that we've a quarterback who can stand up there with the best of them, enjoy the fact we've got the rookie of the year, enjoy the fact we've had 5 more sacks than anyone else in the NFL, enjoy the fact that a beat up secondary has not conceded a legitimate TD in 3 games, enjoy the fact that with 3 games to play we hold a 2 game advantage in the whole NFC. You get the idea I hope.

I've been a Seahawk fan (or the 8-8 Seahawks as I used to call them) for 21 years and there's a whole lot of things in that list that I've never been able to say before. Life is too short and Christmas is too near to worry about the playoffs just yet.

Lofa Tatupu. Man, I love this kid. An interception, a forced fumble, a sack and  4 tackles. Interviewed after the game the only thing he cares about is that he thought he missed 2 tackles and should have taken a swipe at the ball on the sack. Other teams draft players like him, not the Seahawks.

Draft bust it was said about him at the time and one thing that Richard Pryor said in Stir Crazy could have been said by Lofa himself:

"Yeah, I'm a short son of a bitch, my daddy was a short son of a bitch, my mother was shorter than him and my brother, my brother was so short we couldn't even see him"

The secondary has been so beat up it's untrue. Through 13 games I think we've had 6 different combinations of starters back there. I always wondered how the Patriots used to do it playing WR Troy Brown back there and not even skipping a beat. Now it seems the Seahawks can do it with back ups and practice squad guys. It all comes down to the right attitude I guess which is what Tim Ruskell promised when he came in.

I could drone on about this but my thoughts remain the same - enjoy it while it lasts and may it last for a long time.

Go Hawks!!!
