As Draft Day rapidly approaches our resident College Football buff Blueboy
(aka Dave Bailey) collects his thoughts for us & presents his personal
Draft day wish list.
1st Round
Its not too difficult to see what the Seahawks will be drafting on draft day. The key word is Defense. I think it is safe to say that the 1st pick will be a D lineman or a linebacker. So what are our options?
| 1. |
OLB
Derrick
Johnson 6-4/235/- Texas
Waco, TX He wont be on
the board by 23 unless we trade up. |
| 2. |
DE
Shawne Merriman 6-4/245/4.68 Maryland Upper Marlboro, MD
This guy has steadily
risen and as much I would like him I cant see it happening. |
| 3. |
DE
Marcus Spears 6-4/295/- LSU Baton Rouge, LA
This guy has great size and can play both DE and DT, will
probably be best suited to a 3-4 D, don’t think we will take this
guy. |
| 4. |
DE
Dan Cody 6-5/265/-
Oklahoma Ada, OK Cody
has been compared to Wistrom. He is a bit of a tweener and could
even play OLB in a 3-4. He’s a maybe. |
| 5. |
DE
Erasmus James 6-4/270/- Wisconsin Hollywood, FL His stock has fallen due to concerns about his health and
durability. Think we would pass here. |
| 6. |
DE
David Pollack 6-2/261/- Georgia Lithonia, GA
This guy doesn't have great size or speed, but relies on hard
work. Did himself no favours either by appearing to have a bit of an
attitude problem at his schools pro work out day, and I think
Seahawks coaches would probably of noted this and therefore pass on
him. |

Justin tuck
|

Matt Roth |
|
| 7. |
DT
Travis Johnson 6-5/286/- Florida State Sherman Oaks, CA
Don’t think DT is a need, so pass. |
| 8. |
DE
Justin Tuck (pictured right) 6-5/261/- Notre Dame
Rockford, AL Very
fast and athletic, very
possible. |
| 9. |
DT
Shaun Cody 6-3.5/290/-
USC Hacienda Heights, CA Another
DT, he wont be in Seahawk blue. |
| 10. |
OLB
Darryl Blackstock 6-4/240/- Virginia Fork Union, VA This guy is a great pass rushing OLB, perhaps a bit one
dimensional, but he would be a good pick up. |
| 11. |
DE
Matt Roth (pictured right) 6-4/270/- Iowa Villa Park, IL
This guy is relentless, good pass rusher and good against the
run. On the downside has a bad temper and it can get the better of
him at times. |
| 12. |
MLB
Channing Crowder 6-2/241/4.75 Florida Atlanta, GA
I have seen many drafts where we have taken this guy with our
1st pick. To me that would be a bad pick and a reach. |
So
as you can see the Draft this year is deep in defensive players and quite
a few who could make a difference to our D. So who will we get or be able
to take at 23. I think we will take Matt Roth. I like the fact that he has
a relentless pass rush and good run stopping skills. Add to this his
nastiness and I think we have a great DE who will give most O lineman
nightmares.
2nd
Round
With
the 2nd pick I think we would then go for a linebacker. I have
it down to 3 choices.
|

Kevin Burnett
|
|
1. |
OLB
Demarcus Ware 6-4/232/- Troy State Auburn, AL
If by a miracle this guy slips that far, then we take him. |
| 2. |
MLB
Odell Thurman 6-1/225/4.55 Georgia Monticello, GA 6-3/235/- Tennessee
Compton, CA Again
it’s a case of seeing how far this guy lasts. |
| 3. |
OLB
Kevin Burnett (pictured left) 6-3/235/- Tennessee Compton, CA
Quick and athletic, just what we would be looking for. Of
course it depends on whos available at our pick, but I hope
Burnett is there and he could well step in straight away and do a
good job for us. |
3rd Round
In
the 3rd round we have 2 picks. So with these to picks I would
be aiming for a centre to back up Tobeck and eventually take over. The
guy we should look at here is OG
David Baas 6-5/307/5.35
Michigan Sarasota, FL If we
can get him I would be chuffed.
With
the other pick I would aim for a CB, and the guy I have in mind would
not only add depth but can also return kicks, he is Antonio Perkins of Okalahoma.
He is a solid CB and probably the best return guy in this years draft.
2nd
Day Picks
As
for 2nd day picks it gets a little more tricky to pick out a
star. With 2 picks in the 4th I could see us grabbing a RB,
someone like Darren Sproles. I could also see us taking a WR in the 4th
as well, Courtney Roby would be a good pick up, but then anyone who can
catch would be a step in the right direction. Rounds 5,6 and 7 are a bit
hit and miss really and I would imagine it would be BPA. No doubt
Holmgren will take his customary QB, how about Chang from Hawaii, he
could be a useful pick up in the 7th round, and also Tuiasosopo,
a local boy who could turn out to be a good FB. Rounds 5 and 6 I would
imagine would be depth picks, maybe a O line player and I would imagine
another Saftey.
All
these picks will probably be totally wrong and we will take a QB in the
1st round, but then that’s the beauty of this game and the
NFL. It is totally unpredictable, but that’s why we love it.
