Seahawks Round Up – July
By Matt Cheesman

The Franchise player signs, almost all Draft Picks signed & two new additions to the coaching staff……..

Shaun signs his tender

breaking with the tradition started by Walter Jones, Shaun Alexander (pictured left) has signed before Training Camp. This has taken many fans by surprise but after recent events this seemed inevitable. With Jacksonville signing Buffalos Travis Henry & Edgerrin James re-signing with Indianapolis Alexander’s options had effectively dried up. There is the promise of talks over a long-term deal once the regular season starts so watch this space.

Shaun’s arrival in Camp was delayed by the arrival of his second Daughter, Trinity, on Thursday 28 July. He was expected Sunday 31 July.

Almost all onboard

At the time of writing (Sunday 31 July) all the Draft Picks are signed with the exception of Chris Spencer & Lofa Tatupu. Jeff Reinebold advised Seahawks.Com that Tatupu has agreed terms but has yet to sign & Spencer “has to dot the I’s & cross the T’s”. Expect both players in Camp during the next couple of days.

1998 Draft Pick WR Bobby Shaw was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Chargers & has signed for the Hawks. Shaw didn’t make the final squad in his Rookie year but was placed on the practice squad. With the intense competition at WR this time around it is uncertain whether he makes the final 53.

New Coaching Staff

Former Husky Football Coach Keith Gilbertson returns to the Seahawks as an Offensive Consultant. Gilbertson previously coached Seattle Tight Ends in the late Nineties before taking up a similar position with UW.

John Jamison also makes a return to Kirkland assisting Bob Casullo on Special Teams. Jamison was previously a pro personnel assistant for Seattle.

Injuries

With no new injuries to report three players will not be able to contribute until well into the Preseason. Cedric Woodard is not expected back until August 27, Ken Hamlin shortly after & Alex Bannister not until the Season opener on September 11.

In Woodard’s absence Marcus Tubbs is impressing & he could potentially displace either Booger or Rashad Moore.

Peter Boulware hosted a work out for NFL teams in Florida on July 15. Four teams attended including the Seahawks. At the time of writing no team has offered Boulware a deal. It is alleged that Boulware is still looking for a deal in the region of $4 Million a season & it is almost certainly this factor that is putting off teams.
